BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein that has been used therapeutically for over 15 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. Since 2002 it has been FDA-approved for cosmetic treatments. The lines that appear between your brows result from muscle movement over time. As we age the skin becomes less elastic, repeated frowning can result in moderate to severe lines between the brows. Many patients elect to use BOTOX® as a wrinkle-preventive.
BOTOX® works very differently than wrinkle fillers. BOTOX® blocks the body’s chemicals that cause wrinkle-causing facial muscle contraction. By preventing the contraction, you also prevent the wrinkle that comes from it. This works on many facial muscle activities, including:
- Frown lines
- Crows’ feet
- Worry lines
- Unbalanced brows
- Lines or wrinkles under the eyes
- Vertical lip lines – In conjunction with fillers
- “Bunny” lines on the nose
- Downturned mouth corners
- Low or heavy eyebrows (brow lift)
- Chin crunch (unconscious contraction of chin muscles)
- Neck bands (platysma)
- Eyelid twitching
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the simplest procedures with one of the most dramatic responses. You can expect to see results within days after your treatment. The appearance of the treated areas may continue to improve over time as the wrinkle relaxes and smoothes.
The Museum Spa & Laser Center may recommend BOTOX® injections prior to filler injections in certain areas of frequent muscle movement as this prevents “creasing” of the filler product. Combined use often prolongs the effects of both BOTOX® and your chosen filler as they work synergistically to fill the wrinkles and relax the muscles themselves.
BOTOX® is very often used to affect a “Chemical Brow lift” and can be accomplished with a few extra injection locations. By preventing the action of the muscles that push the brow down, the muscles that lift the brow up have more ability to raise the brow – in essence providing a temporary nonsurgical brow lift or brow balancing if one brow is lower than the other.
The Museum Spa & Laser Center has many years of experience. Only licensed and trained healthcare professionals have the experience necessary to administer BOTOX® Cosmetic. The Museum Spa & Laser Center only uses authentic BOTOX® Cosmetic at the full manufacturer recommended strength. This insures your safety and the results you expect.
You should expect to see immediate results within a few days, but normally the improvement will appear over the first week. We will assess your facial activity and make appropriate recommendations regarding your specific needs. The procedure takes minutes, and no anesthesia is required, but if you are pain sensitive we are more than happy to apply topical numbing. The discomfort is minimal and can be compared to a bug bite. You may resume normal activities and reapply make-up as needed. The most common side effects may include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, nausea or temporary eyelid droop.
How will I look?
